Bogan – An intriguing body swap game between a deadly vicious criminal and an intelligent police officer.
A mastermind criminal who has learnt a special technique of body swapping from ancient manuscript wish to live the life of King in the modern era does anything for money. On the other side smart minded police officer has a beautiful family and lady love. When these two lines cross and the police man is under pressure to prove his father ignorant the game is on.
Not many movies form out of the usual templates of Tamil cinema, Bogan takes a fresh route to engage us with a cat and mouse game with the element of body swapping. After a Rom-Com outing Director Laxman took a risk experimenting with this plot and yes he has indeed pulled it off. His dialogues specially for Aravind Swami is top notch. With the base of Aravind swami those dialogues bring the roof down. Despite the films does follow some commercial Laxman’s motive of giving something fresh to the audience is much appreciated. Wish he does such experimental scripts more.
Jayam Ravi, a typical cop material fits perfect to the glue. He does impressive work for majority of the film but his other persona acting is half satisfactory as after a while we see Jayam Ravi style back. A bit more concentration on this part would have easily fetched him a notable performance credit. Better luck next time Ravi.
Aravind Swami, this man is the show stealer. His voice and body language makes you whistle for every scene. He carries a swag such easily and his charisma is the pillar “Bogan” relies on. If not for him, I doubt this movie would be this good. He is the real hero of this film, has more songs, scenes and fights compared to Ravi, one can’t blame as the script is bound to be. If you are his fan you have a feast waiting for you.
Hansika, the ever bubbly charming heroine has finally found a right script which gives space to show her acting skills. She is hot and sexy as usual but in Bogan her acting skills stands-out.
Imman, does a great job with RR yet songs are a disappointment. “Kooduvitu” and “Damaalu Dumeelu” is vibrant. Anthony cuts are yet another power to the script though romance needed more scissors. Soundarajan cinematography is to be applauded for the mystic and colourful capturing of a fantasy flick.
Fantasy element could have been explained a bit more clearly, we get the gist but as it forms the crux it ultimately triggers anxiety to know more. The climax is loaded with logic loop holes but it can be overseen for the positive “Bogan” holds.
Having said that, Bogan is entertaining fantasy suspense thriller that immerses you with a fresh experience.
