Yeman, an mediocre snake and ladder game on the backdrops of politics.

A poor protagonist , for money decides to take the blame for an uncommitted crime gets into jail. He is then sucked into a maze of viscous politics and from then on it’s an interplay between the protagonist and a bunch of villains to outwit each other. Finally, who gets the throne is what Yaman is all about.

Vijay Antony, a promising hero of the K-town is celebrated for his wise selection of scripts and daring choice of titles. With Yaman, Vijay has decided to raise his commercial mass meter by certain degrees and Yaman does gives ample space to it. His subtle acting and a sudden explosion of heroism at right moments serves the required mass quotient. He can avoid romantic dance numbers and can improve a lot in the realm of romance.

Mia George, does her part as commanded and looks pleasant on screen. Thiagarajan, plays a potential role in the film. Though he is stationary for most of the film, his metal voice does all the magic. His performance in the climax is an example of his experience in acting.

Jeeva Sankar, after his successful first venture of “Naan”, chooses the grounds of politics and casts it brilliantly. His dialogues are as sharp as daggers and very much relatable to the current political situation. He sets up the mood and characters at a good phase in the first half and allows them to play on a political satire in the second half. Though the payoff is justified, repetitive strategy for attacks and counter attacks causes a boredom well in advance from the climax. He can overlook certain commercial compromises, especially when he handles an artist like Vj Antony he has a lot of scope for experimentation.

Music does not take any special mention as they lag the usual Vj Antony magic. Surprisingly no numbers make an impact. BGM does its purpose commercial.

Overall, Yeman – a one-time ride if you like political dramas.

Rating : 2.5 / 5
